Peter Heseltine

Peter Heseltine is an internationally-renowned expert who for more than 30 years has concentrated his efforts to help improve the safety of children’s play and, in particular, play provision. He has been a pioneer and leading proponent of the application of risk assessment and other occupational safety and health management techniques to playgrounds and play facilities from parish playgrounds to Legoland.

He has been employed in a wide variety of posts including as the editor of Playtimes; general manager of NPFA Playground Services Ltd and, for the last 11 years, playground safety adviser for RoSPA, in which time his team has inspected between four and five thousand playgrounds a year.

Peter is the author of numerous publications about playground safety and play environments and provides training courses on various aspects of playground management for the Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management as well as for RoSPA He has lectured widely in the UK, continental Europe, the USA, South America, the Far East and Australasia.

For many years he was an influential member of BSI Technical Committee SW/6S on playground equipment standards and Chairman of WG/3 for PAS 3S (Wheeled Sports Areas). Peter is currently a member of the European Standards Committee for Wheeled Sports Areas. Until November 2002 he was vice-president of the International Play Association

Awarded the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents Distinguished Service Award.
