Phil Hughes

Phil Hughes has played a major role in the development and professionalisation of the role of the health and safety adviser. As President of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health from 1990 to 1991, he was influential in steering the institution to establish the “Register of Safety Practitioners”. In 1996 he became chair of the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health where he has led the modernisation of the Board and the development of the syllabuses for the new NEBOSH Diploma parts 1 and 2.

Awarded the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents Distinguished Service Award.
